"But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things" (1 John 2:20).
One of my favorite quotes that I say at the Shekinah Glory Family Worship Center is that " I Have A Unction To Function" in other words I have been anointed to function in the office that God has called me because of His Anointing.
A lot of people talk about the " Anointing" all of the time as if they were the ones that anointed themselves being taught how to preach and say eloquent words doesn't mean a thing a child can copy a parent any time but the Anointing can never be duplicated.
There was a sorcerer in the 8th Chapter of the Book of Acts named Simon who had amazed the Samaritans "for a long time with his sorcery" (Acts 8:11), some even declaring that he was "the great Power of God" (Acts 8:10) In the wake of hearing and seeing the disciple Philip “as he proclaimed the good news of the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ" (Acts 8:12), Simon no longer performed his sorcery and was baptized into the early church and "followed Philip everywhere" (Acts 8:13). At this time, even though he had been baptized, Simon appears to have not confessed Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, as usually when people believe in Christ as their Savior, they immediately receive the Holy Spirit. However, "the Holy Spirit had not yet come" (Acts 8:16) "for he had not yet fallen on any of them, but they had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus." Philip then sends for Peter and John to come and lay hands on the people in Samaria that they all might be filled with the Holy Ghost. When Simon witnessed this act by Peter and John, he "offered them money and said, ‘Give me also this ability so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit’" (Acts 8:19-20). At this point, Peter strongly reprimands Simon for his greed and states that he needs to "repent of this wickedness and pray to the Lord in the hope that he may forgive you for having such a thought in your heart" (Acts 8:22). Fearful of the apostle's words, Simon pleads with Peter to pray to the Lord on his behalf that he may be a part of the ministry, that his heart be right with God, and that he may not be a captive to his sin. Did you notice verse 20? Peter said to Simon “May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money!"
The Anointing cannot be bought!
Being that I am a son of the COGIC one of the greatest lessons that I learned in the COGIC was learning to know or discern the difference between "flesh" and the "Spirit" every minister that I knew especially those around me.
We all wanted God to ENDOW US WITH POWER OF THE HOLY GHOST!
We wanted to be transparent, real and not fake!
I was so thankful that the Clark Sisters had come out with that timely and anointed song " ENDOW ME" ....To lay hands and to discern,To understand God's holy word,To speak with tongues and give interpetation,To prophesy with edification,Move in the midst of of thy people, Move in me Lord like shekinah glory from on high, To heal the sick and raise the dead, To cast out devils like Jesus said,To open blinded eyes and cure the mind,To move the mountains and break up that fallow ground,Move in the midst of thy people, Move in me Lord like shekinah glory from on high. Endow me Lord, Endow me Lord Oh Lord, Oh Lord ........With the power (with the power)....Of the Holy Ghost! This is why you need the Holy Ghost to Endow You!
John appeals to a teaching or power that comes from beyond the believer. By this anointing believers may discern the truth. The anointing spoken of here is the gift of the Holy Spirit. Which is also The Spirit of truth which guides believers into the knowledge of the truth and teaches them "all things" (Jn 14:17, 26; 15:26; 16:13). It is the Spirit which testifies about Jesus (15:26; 16:13-15), even as believers now also do. In short, the anointing of which believers may be confident is the presence and guidance of the Spirit. The anointing, the guiding of the Spirit, insures us that all believers know the truth.
That anointing is not limited to a few or to the elite: it belongs to all but you have to be saved to recieve it. In John 14: 16, 17 Jesus say's " And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees him not, neither knows him: but you know him; for he dwells with you, and shall be in you.
